Hello, my name is Jordan, a.k.a. Pamina! I’m a young LA resident with a knack for writing, a bachelor’s degree in Music History from UCLA, Asperger’s Syndrome, a cute dog named Annie and a passion for opera. I discovered it as a little girl, when I was introduced to the charms of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” (“Die Zauberflote”) – hence my username, after the princess heroine of that masterpiece. Since then my love for the art form has grown with every year, as I’ve listened to it, read about it, studied it, and enjoyed countless opera performances both live and on DVD and video. I’ve created this blog as a place to share my reviews of the various video and audio recordings of my favorite operas. Whether the latest releases or classic recordings from yesteryear, I embrace them. My greatest inspiration comes from the Metropolitan Opera’s outstanding “Guide to Recorded Opera” and “Guide to Opera on Video”: the style of my writing owes something to the reviews in those books, but the opinions I express are all my own. My understanding of vocal techniques and music theory (despite four years of study) are shaky at best, but when I hear an opera performance, I know what I like, what I don’t like, and what I madly adore. The purpose of this blog is to share those emotions and thoughts with fellow opera devotees. Whoever and wherever you are, I hope you enjoy it!
